Obituary

Mrs. Mildred Kersey Coleman Solomon, 81, of Adrian, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at her home, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Solomon was born October 3, 1941, to Willard Kersey and Francis Lavine Rogers Kersey in Johnson County. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Vertis Coleman; her second husband, Howard Edward Solomon; brother, William Kersey; sister, Brenda Kirby “Pee Wee”; great grandchild, Mitchell Corey Gillis; brothers-in-law, Joe Smith, Danny Peebles.

Mildred was the oldest of nine brothers and sisters.  She was known as Grandma, Mil Mil, and Ma.  Following school, Mildred met Vertis Coleman, having her children, Deborah, Clay, Rhonda, and Stan.

Mildred loved her family, and as time went on, more family was created and more of grandma’s love was given.  Mildred enjoyed getting out of the house, eating her favorite foods, spending time with family, shopping, and most of all, she loved being a “grandma”.

A woman of principle and courage, Mildred was always firm in what she believed in, and it is from that her family and friends have learned to stay strong.  Mildred was more than just a strong figure.  She was also a woman of gentle smiles and a soothing voice for all.

God saw her getting tired and a cure was not to be.  So, He put his arms around her and whispered “come to me”.  A golden heart stopped beating and hard-working hands went to rest.

She is survived by sons, Clay Coleman and Stan Coleman (Michelle), both of Adrian; daughters, Deborah Mills (Sammy Jr) of Adrian, Rhonda Stapleton (Sherman) of Kite; brothers, Rusty Kersey (Ginger), Lamar Kersey (Carolyn), both of Kite, Willard “Polie” Kersey, Jr. (Judy), of Adrian, Leonard Kersey (Sandy) of Dublin; sisters, Gloria Sumner (Dean), Shirley Smith, Bessie Peebles, all of Adrian; grandchildren, Sammy Mills III, Adam Mills, Michael Solomon, Leanna Thomas, Holli Coleman, Kayla Coleman; great grandchildren, Jaxon Bishop, Mack Mills, Brieland Scott, Maggie Solomon, Salem Solomon, Corey Thomas, and Rayne Thomas.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Chapel Baptist Church in Kite with Reverend Lamar Kersey officiating.
