Peggy Warnock Obituary

Peggy Warnock was born on January 11, 1943 to Lester and Katherine Faircloth Woods in Metter, Georgia in Chandler County. She attended school in Metter, Georgia; and graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1962. She was an avid basketball player. She loved sports.

She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for forty-seven years and taught Sunday School for some forty-six years. She sang in the choir and was very active in the work of the church.

She had a great love for people and especially enjoyed working with the youth and the senior citizens.

She worked for Swainsboro Nursing Home for twenty-five years as Activities Director and Social Worker.

She was a social worker for the State of Georgia in 1997 and Vice President of Social Worker in Georgia. She enjoyed being President of Emanuel County Heart Association and worked with them for several years.

Peggy met and married Lester Gillis Jr. in 1962. They were married for thirty-six years until his death in 1998. Then in 2000, she married Rev. Earl Wanock.

In 2018, Peggy and her husband joined Calvary Grace Baptist Church in Ailey, Georgia.

She has three children; Kathy (David) Page of Wrightsville, Georgia; Wayne Gillis of Portal, Georgia; and Keith (Lisa) Gillis of Lyons, Georgia; nine grandchildren; Missy Dean, Allan Giles, Jason (Letasha) Giles, Jennifer Giles, Alley (Steven) Osbourn, Tyler Gillis, Sarah Parker, Grayson Gillis, and Michael Gillis; nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Peggy Warnock was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Woods and Katherine Woods Nasworthy; son, Wayne Gillis; two brothers, Bobby and Earl Woods; one grandson Mitchell Gillis.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Earl Warnock; children, Kathy (David) Page, Keith (Lisa) Gillis; two step-daughters, Mary Chapman, of East Dublin and Evelyn Robert Henry, of Swainsboro; one step-sister, Theresa O’Berry, of Adrian; step-mother, Martha Woods, of Adrian; two half-sisters, Tammy (Alfred) Johnson, of Swainsboro, and Shirley Beck, of Adrian; two step-brothers, Dennis and David Collins, of Adrian; four step-grandchildren, Donnie Ray Chapman, Kevin and Angela Chapman, Amy Lynn (DJ) Clark, and Nichale (Corey) Enlow; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Townsend Funeral Home’s Chapel at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, with a visitation an hour prior to service. Burial will be at East Brook Cemetery in Swainsboro, Georgia at 4:00 PM. Ministers will be Earl Warnock, husband, Brother Brian Patrick, and Jimmy Allen. Pallbearers will be Jason Giles, Allan Giles, Michael Gillis, David Page, Donnie Ray Chapman, Mark Joiner, and Dillon Chapman. Honorary Pallbearers will be all preachers and their wives.

Family will meet at the family home on 1010 Old Savannah Road.
