Mrs. Terrie Gordy Averett, 60, of Swainsboro passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Averett was born October 5, 1959 in Swainsboro to the late Walter Gordy and Gladys Lawson Gordy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Gordy and Gladys Lawson Gordy; son, Shanon Averett; brother, Charles Gordy; sisters, Geraldine Rich, Gloria Davis. Mrs. Averett loved life and her family was everything. She loved working on crafts and making gifts for the grandkids. She loves her animals and would take in any stray that came in the yard. Mrs. Averett enjoyed planting flowers in the yard, she had a green thumb and enjoyed sharing her flowers with others. She was the most amazing mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. Mrs. Averett was a member of Kite Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Averett of Swainsboro; sons, Bryan (Pam) Akridge of Norristown, Phillip (Walkiria) Akridge and Wes (Jennifer) Averett, both of Summertown, Jeremy Averett and Shane (Katherine) Averett, both of Swainsboro; daughters, Wendy (Chris) Young of Swainsboro, Jessica Bird of Norristown; sisters, Cherry (Don) Wilkerson of Twin City; 19 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons, several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be Friday, September 25, 2020 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Allen Meeks and Joe Bedgood officiating.
Interment will follow at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Brad McKenzie officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jeremiah Johnson, Kevin Rich, Chris Young, Matt Slater, Champ Averett, and Tony Gordy.
In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, 6 feet rule will be enforced during visitation and service.
