Mr. Verlyn Paul Arrington, 80, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, April 22, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Arrington was born October 8, 1938 in Emanuel County to the late Jessie James Arrington and Samantha Louise Fields Arrington. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jessie James Arrington, Jr., Benny Arrington, Bill Arrington, Bob Arrington, and Louis Portwood. Mr. Arrington graduated Wadley High School in 1956 and then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served for 4 years. He then met and married Kay Mason Arrington and shortly afterwards reenlisted with the United States Army. While serving his country, he completed a tour in Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. He retired in 1977 as a Master Sergeant and returned to Swainsboro. He accepted the Lord as his Savior in July of 1978, and he and his family joined Southside Baptist Church. He served the Lord faithfully for 41 years before the Lord called him home. He loved fishing and gardening, but he especially enjoyed working at his Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Kay M. Arrington of Swainsboro; son, Jeff Arrington (Emma) of Steubenville, Ohio; daughter, Lisa Vroman (Darrell) of Hillard, FL.; sister, Nell Gregory (Frank) of Smyrna, GA.; grandchildren, Ashley Cox (Shaun), Shane Arrington, Kalyn Smith (Jason), Amber Thompson (Nick), Jonathan Vroman (Kirsten), Daniel Vroman, Melissa Vroman, and Laura Vroman; great-grandchildren, Phoebe Cox, Lukas Cox, Roman Thompson, Eliana Thompson, Brooklyn Vroman, and Reagan Smith; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be at Southside Baptist Church 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019 with Reverends Chad Kennison and Earl Warnock officiating. Mr. Arrington will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Shane Arrington, Jonathan Vroman, Daniel Vroman, Jason Smith, Nick Thompson, Alton Henry, Cameron Kennison, and Jimmy Peebles.
Honorary pallbearers are Men of Southside Baptist Church and Employees of Pruitt Hospice.
